Secure Email

R. stumbled upon Jeftel that promises (among other things) an end to Spam. They do it by using a proprietary, peer-2-peer email system. That’s great news actually, beacuse it shows us, that we haven’t been the only ones having this idea. (And as Simon Garfinkel notes, P2P comes clean and can be used for other purposes than sharing music).
So how does it compare to what we at ZAPPATA are doing. I have outlined how ZAPPATA solves email problems (not just Spam). And we don’t do anything proprietary either: We use known and trusted protocols: SMTP, POP3, IMAP, DNS.
And while we don’t envision 10 Million users by 2007, we have a couple of other nice things planned for the future.
Stay tuned!

The “mystery founder” of Jeftel is a big spammer:

Hmm – what an interesting co-incidence. If there is a relationship between jeftel and a spammers outfit, and jeftel really takes of – one would have a compeletely distributed spam-bot net. And the users would even have paid for it. Ingenious….
… And the article 3.3 of User Licence for Jeftel would make a sense:
“3.3. The User by accepting these terms and conditions grants permission for the Company to utilise the processor and bandwidth of the User’s computer for the limited purpose of facilitating communication between others within the Jefcom Community”.

Hi,
I don’t know if theses stories about spam are true ; we can notice that if many newspapers publish articles, nobody seems to have tested the software.
What would be the goal of the company ?
Intersting stuff – and yes, nobody “trustworthy” has come out and said that he/she has been testing the software. It should be easy though with a Ethernet sniffer to see what is going on behind the scenes – or at least whom connections to are being made. Volunteers?
Interesting service. Peer to Peer Email. Its for sure more secure but trust me you can hack anything!
